Elementary Principal's Corner

November 2019

Dear Families,

As Thanksgiving approaches we are thankful for the support you give to your children and our team each day. We are also thankful for opportunities that our Pre-Kindergarten program has been given this year. I’ve included them below.

NYOS Pre-Kindergarten Center

NYOS has a new Pre-Kindergarten Center! In June, Texas lawmakers approved funding for early childhood education as part of a major school finance law called House Bill 3 (HB3). HB3, along with an opportunity to expand learning spaces at the Kramer campus, allowed NYOS to now offer a full day program for our PreK-4 year old students.

With lots of work, patience, and flexibility by all, the new Pre-Kindergarten Center opened on October 21st. The Pre-K Center includes one Pre-K three-year-old classroom, two Pre-K four-year-old classrooms, a Spanish classroom, and several office spaces. It also has a STEAM room for our youngest learners to experience science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities, as well as outdoor space for eating and playing when the weather is nice!

PreK = Fabulous Teachers + Supportive Parents

We are thankful for our tremendously talented Pre-K team. The Pre-K-4 classrooms are led by Ms. Jessica Brown, Ms. Michelle Thompson, Ms. Mayra Arellano, and Ms. Farah Silat. Joining the team to lead our Pre-K-3 classes are Ms. Nichole Falgoust and Ms. Ofmara Samudio.

We are grateful and thankful for our Pre-K Parents! They have been so kind and supportive as we’ve worked to prepare the new Pre-K Center. They even took the time to organize a lovely appreciation celebration for the Pre-K teachers.

In this season of remembering to give thanks, I would like to express my appreciation to all who volunteer their time and talents to help our school. I hope you enjoy a healthy, safe Thanksgiving holiday break. I look forward to seeing you when we return on December 2nd!

Sincerely,

Terry Berkenhoff
