NYOS Charter School—Not Your Ordinary School—is a free, public charter school that was founded in 1998 by a group of parents who wanted more out of education for their children. It is through a commitment to our students, our staff and our academic excellence that we have been able to grow to serving more than 1,000 students in PreK through 12th grade.

As a tuition-free, public charter school, NYOS receives about $700 less per student in government funding compared to traditional public schools. NYOS Charter School's academic results are substantially higher than those of surrounding schools, and as a charter school, we rely on the support of our school community to continue our commitment of academic success.

Bad Weather Information

NYOS Charter School will make our own determination on any school closure decisions and we will communicate this information to families in a timely fashion through platforms that include the school website, email, and text notification.

If a delayed start occurs on a Friday, NYOS will continue classes through the afternoon and students will be dismissed based on the schedule below:

PK-3 AM: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
PK-3 PM: 1:00 p.m. – 3:35 p.m.
Elementary (PK-4 to 5th): 3:35 p.m.
Middle School (6th to 8th): 4:00 p.m.
High School (9th to 12th): 4:00 p.m.

Breakfast and lunch service will be available. Student attendance is very important on bad weather delay days because the learning that was scheduled to happen that day will still occur on that day. Attendance will be recorded on weather delay days. Please check the NYOS Charter School website regularly for updates regarding after school and extracurricular activities.
