Admissions: Prospective Students » Application Process

Application Process

NYOS uses a lottery based enrollment system. Every student has an equal opportunity to enroll at NYOS by filling out an application. In the spring of every year, NYOS compiles their waiting list for the next school year. Applications are randomly selected for each opening at each grade level and are numbered in the order they are drawn.

Application Process

How does the Lottery work?

NYOS uses a lottery based enrollment system. Every student has an equal opportunity to enroll at NYOS by filling out an application. Applications are randomly selected for each opening at each grade level and are numbered in the order they are drawn. In the spring of every year, NYOS compiles their waiting list for the next school year.

Waitlist / Applying after Lottery date

If you are interested in applying to NYOS Charter School for the current school year, you still can. After applying, your application will be added to the our waitlist and a waitlist number will be assigned. Applications submitted AFTER the lottery date are added to the end of the waitlist. Your application will also be added to next year's lottery as we hold our applications for two consecutive school years.

Each year your student's spot on the waitlist will change. For example, the first year, your student might be twenty-three on the waitlist. The next year, your student might be offered a spot, might be number four, or might be number fifty. We ask that you apply for each year you would like to be considered for enrollment.

Staff & Sibling Priority

We base our enrollment according to priority for the children of NYOS staff members or the siblings of current NYOS students. For example, if a student has a brother or sister at NYOS or if a student is the child of a staff member and would like to be admitted to NYOS, they will receive priority over a new student. If no siblings/staff children are currently on the waiting list then the administration will notify the next student in line of the opening.

Application Criteria

Our student application requires an Austin area home address located in one of the following school districts in order for the application to be eligible for our annual lottery: Austin ISD, Bastrop ISD, Coupland ISD, Del Valle ISD, Eanes ISD, Elgin ISD, Hays CISD, Hutto ISD, Georgetown ISD, Jarrell ISD, Lago Vista ISD, Lake Travis ISD, Leander ISD, Manor ISD, Pflugerville ISD, Round Rock ISD, Smithville ISD, and Taylor ISD.
