Secondary Teachers Ean Fulks and Natalie Elliott recently presented at the National Council of Teachers of English Annual Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Their roundtable discussion “From Formalism to Freedom: Making the Personal Essay Relevant in the 21st Century” addressed the importance of teaching authentic genres of writing over teaching to standardized writing tasks for extended periods of time.

The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) is hosting TWO opportunities for NYOS students and families to enjoy Nature In Lights, a 5.5 mile holiday lights display that includes vendors, pictures with Santa, and more! Go here to register each event. ALL proceeds from these events will benefit TAFE's fundraising efforts for state competition!
The NYOS PTA hosted a Spirit Night at Texas Roadhouse on the evening of Monday, December 4. For anyone who showed the PTA's custom flyer while dining, Texas Roadhouse donated 10% from the food purchase to NYOS Charter School!
The NYOS Charter School PTA Holiday Bazaar & Auction took place on Saturday, December 2 from 1-5pm at our Lamar Campus. Attendees were able to browse local vendors, enjoy hot cocoa, take their photo with Santa, and bid on a variety of auction items!
NYOS Charter School hosted Family Literacy Night on Thursday, November 30. From our annual Vocabulary Parade to Push Pin Poetry to a Word Walk, there was something fun and educational for everyone! Thank you to all our teachers and parents who helped to make this year's Family Literacy Night a HUGE success! It's events like these that truly make our school's community a special one!
On Tuesday, November 28, NYOS Charter School set a goal to raise $1,000 in just 24 hours during #GivingTuesday. Thanks to the incredible support, of our parents, teachers, and community members, a total of $3,865 was raised through both our Facebook Fundraiser and our website, making #GivingTuesday a day that was truly Not Your Ordinary Day of Giving! It's through your caring contributions that we can provide each and every one of our students with an academic program that allows them to reach their full potential. Thank you again for all that you do!
Tied to a practicum in education and training curriculum, NYOS Charter School recently hosted the 2nd Annual Diversity Fair. The fair was an opportunity for NYOS students to celebrate various cultures and traditions, featuring a night of food, educational activities, and performances.
NYOS Charter School can be seen all over the Austin community! NYOS 5th graders recently introduced authors Jeffery Brown, Matthew Holm, Robbi Behr, and Matthew Swanson for the "LOL OMG" panel at the Texas Book Festival.
On Saturday, November 11, NYOS students competed at the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) regional conference and earned 18 state advancements! Amazing job, Jags!
On Tuesday, November 10, parents attended NYOS Charter School's Elementary Parent University to learn more about a variety of topics, including STEM projects, ELA support, and at-home, educational tech tools. Thank you to all our teachers and staff who helped make Parent University a huge success!
