Description

Principles of Education and Training is designed to introduce learners to the various careers available within the education and training career cluster. Students use self-knowledge and educational and career information to analyze various careers within the education and training career cluster. Students will also gain an understanding of the basic knowledge and skills essential to careers within the education and training career cluster. Students will develop a graduation plan that leads to a specific career choice in the student’s interest area.  Students will also have the opportunity to shadow/ observe personnel within the educational career cluster within the NYOS community.

LESSON ASSIGNMENT

Each member of the class will prepare and document a lesson using direct instruction. The primary purposes of the assignment is to learn how to plan and deliver direct instruction and to strengthen understanding of principles of education and training by applying them to an authentic teaching activity.

 

Presentations/ Lessons  will start on April 25th. I will include a schedule of lesson by April 18th.

Teaching Philosophy:

Purpose of this assignment: For you to develop a statement of your beliefs about teaching to use as a guide throughout your career.  As I have said since the beginning of the year, you will encounter teaching and training in every occupation in several capacities.  As you continue on your career path you should reference this document.  You are likely to revise and refine this as your grow and lean more professionally.

What you should turn in:

A 1-2 page statement of your beliefs about teaching. You may use whatever format and style is appropriate for you.

You will submit this assignment on turn it iin.

 I encourage you to:

  • Write from your heart.
  • Be creative in how you present your beliefs.
  • Although formatting and writing styles should be used, you may also use a list of beliefs, annotate photographs and/or drawings, write a poem, do a sculpture or some other art form, then photograph it and include it in your description of your beliefs).

Again this needs to be submitted to Turnitin.

You will conduct an interview (approximately 30 minutes) with a current administrator (principal, assistant principal, supervisor, athletic director, director, superintendent, assistant superintendent, etc…) to learn more about their role, as well as to discuss their philosophy of leadership, change, entry into a position, and other topics discussed in class. Students will submit a copy of the proposed questions for approval prior to the interview. Students will then develop a written report, including reflection, following the interview.

Answer the following questions about the movie and school.  Once you have completed the questions, select one of the four prompts to write a 2 minute speech on.  The speech needs to be uploaded to Turnitin.

After completing the personality assessments, you will be creating a one-page summary on:

  • The importance of understanding your personality type
  • How it applies to your life now
  • How it could apply to your life as a teacher in the future (remember in every occupation you will be teaching/training). >Submitted on Turnitin

  • Representing  your personality type(s)
  • How it relates to you interacting with/within the world.  
  • Addressing the differences of your personality type in interacting with others (#8).

1st quarters focus was the history of education and how that has correlated into current day and the societal impacts of education.  Upon returning from fall break, we will be spending a great deal of time talking about personality and how it translates into how we learn/don’t learn, how we interact, and how and why we do the things that we do.   

It is important that you both take and understand the results from the personality tests below because you will be using them to build your first major grade of the 2nd quarter.   The links are smaller version of the actual test and may or may not be consistent.  This should be noted in your presentation.

This is the test review for your first unit exam for the history of education.  You will need to use the guided PowerPoint that we went over in class to help you answer the questions.

Assignment- Research the following types of schools that developed in the United States during the 17th through 19th centuries. I will provide you with a packet that contains a great deal of information, however you may have to search beyond the packet for some of the information.

Songs of the Times 

You are to choose a song from the list provided that contains songs from the 17th through the 20th century.  You will conduct research on the song, the artist, and the events surrounding the year the song was written. In addition, I would like for you to predict what education was like during that time by relying on your findings through lyrical research.   You will present your findings to the class.  The will count as 2 grades (one for presentation and one for the essay both major projects/test grades).   There will be additional class grades assigned during class for productivity.

Your first assignment for the year is filling out and submitting the syllabus receipts that states you and your parent/guardian have both read and understood the course syllabus, classroom expectations and procedures.
