Dr. Erik Torres
Executive Director / Superintendent
Dr. Erik Torres is the Executive Director/Superintendent of NYOS Charter School in Austin. A Texas public school educator for more than 15 years, he began as a fourth grade bilingual teacher at the same elementary school he attended as a child, and has since served as a campus principal, a leader at the Texas Education Agency, and most recently as Chief Academic Officer in Pflugerville ISD. He holds a B.S. in Business Management from University of Phoenix, a M. Ed. in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University and an Ed. D., also in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University. His first 100 days follow an entry plan to Listen, Strengthen, Advance: forty-five days of structured listening with staff, families, students and the board, then a phase spent making what already works reliable, and new work only after both.
Dr. Torres was born in Houston, Texas where his parents settled after they emigrated from Monterrey, Mexico in the early eighties. He has varied interests from running, reading, napping, and cooking, but enjoys spending time with his family the most. He is excited to share his love and passion for education with the NYOS community!
