Mathew May, Interim Executive Director

Mathew May

Interim Executive Director

I have the privilege of serving as the Interim Executive Director of NYOS Charter School. Since joining NYOS in 2019, I have served in a variety of leadership roles spanning Human Resources, Operations, Finance, Facilities, Safety, Food Services, and Talent Acquisition. Throughout each role, my focus has remained the same: supporting the people who make our school community exceptional.

I was raised in the small town of Pocahontas, Arkansas, where my parents worked in manufacturing and taught me the values of hard work, integrity, and keeping your word. My grandparents dedicated more than four decades each to public education—my grandfather as a school bus mechanic and my grandmother as a school custodian. Together, they instilled in me a deep respect for service and the belief that every role in a school contributes to student success. Early life experiences also shaped my commitment to treating every person with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Although I originally envisioned a career in corporate Human Resources, I found my calling in public education at NYOS. What began as a professional opportunity quickly became a community. I believe every staff member deserves a leader who listens, supports their growth, and helps them succeed. Likewise, I believe students thrive when they are known, supported, and encouraged as individuals.

While serving NYOS, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management, my Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University, and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential. I remain committed to lifelong learning and believe the strongest organizations are built through trust, transparency, open communication, and a shared commitment to serving others.

It is an honor to lead alongside the dedicated staff, students, families, and community that make NYOS such a special place. I look forward to building on our strong foundation while ensuring every member of our school community feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
