At the end of each school year, NYOS Charter School recognizes deserving students to receive three NYOS scholarships: the Al-Tabatabaie Scholarship, the ChiaChu Chen Scholarship, and the Adams Scholarship for NYOS Juniors. We’re excited to share that the following NYOS students recently received this year’s scholarships:
- Class of 2020 graduate Taryn Harvey was awarded the Al-Tabatabaie Scholarship. Taryn is a high-achieving student who was involved in many extracurriculars – including TAFE, NHS, and our annual Black History Month Celebration – and completed countless hours of volunteer work both on and off campus. Taryn is now headed to Texas Woman’s University where she will major in Biology to pursue a career as an OB/GYN.
- Class of 2020 graduate Anthony Sone was awarded the ChiaChu Chen Scholarship. Anthony was involved in numerous extracurricular activities at NYOS: he was the Secretary for PALs, Treasurer for Youth & Government, Vice President of ASL Club, a Senior Class offer, a Yearbook staff member, an NHS member, and a Cross Country athlete- all while finding the time to excel academically and even work at HEB! Anthony is now headed to Austin Community College where he will pursue a career in Nursing.
- Class of 2021 senior Jenny Marquez-Rodriguez was awarded the Adams Scholarship for NYOS Juniors. Jenny has also been involved in many extracurricular activities while at NYOS. NYOS parent Amy Adams, who is part of the selection committee shared, “Our scholarship committee was particularly struck by the maturity and passion of Jenny’s essay entry. She has known what she wanted to do with her life since she was six years old and has a clear vision. Jenny will represent the NYOS community well in the future with her aspirations to be a specialty doctor. Can’t wait to see what she does next!”
We're so proud of these deserving students and recent graduates for all that they've accomplished and all that we know they'll continue to accomplish!
