Outdoor School Conditions

Dear Parents,

We know there is some concern over the weather conditions for Outdoor School.  Please keep in mind that the cabins are rustic and are furnished with none or one outlet.  The outlets that do exist are not equipped to handle items requiring larger amounts of electricity.  We are monitoring the weather conditions, and although it will be cooler at night, it will not be too cold for them to sleep safely (provided they bring sleeping bags and appropriate cold weather attire).  Please leave space heaters, electric blankets, etc. at home.  We would like to keep outlets open for teachers and chaperones to charge their phones so we have them available to contact parents as needed.

Due to the nature of the cabins, Camp Champions prohibits snacks being brought.  Students will need to throw away their lunch bags after we eat lunch on Thursday.  All meals and snacks will be provided with plenty of options.

Socktober!

Ms. Wolfgang’s fourth grade class is collecting clean socks for homeless people.  As it gets colder, people without homes need socks to keep their feet warm.

There is a collection box in the common area.  Please ask your son or daughter to drop your socks off there.

Thank you for helping us help people less fortunate than ourselves!

Student Conference Sign-Up Sheet

Dear Parents,

It is time to start scheduling our student-led conferences. Your child will show you what he or she has been working on in class, as well as discuss goals that he/she has set for the 2014 school year.

These conferences will be held on Friday, September 11h and Monday, September 15th.   Students get out of school at 12:15 both days.  To make sure all parents can attend I am also available after school on the 11th. We will have several conferences taking place at the same time. I will meet with you during the last 15 minutes of the conference time, after your child has gone through their work samples and goals with you.  If you have issues to discuss concerning your child which are not covered during the conference, we can meet another time privately.

Please mark your first, second and third choice of times with a 1, 2, and 3.  You can return the sheet through your child’s take home folder or email me. I will highlight which time is yours and return this form to you in your child’s take home folder or by e-mail. The times will be filled in the order which I receive them from you.  I look forward to seeing you at this very important meeting!

Thank you,

Ms. Shapiro

Field Trip to Pioneer Farms

Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

I sent home this letter today but I am also posting it in case it doesn't make it home!

We’re busy preparing a day of fun and learning for your child at Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms!  A visit to Pioneer Farms is an exciting learning experience for children of all ages!  Your child, along with his/her classmates will see how Texans lived on the frontier in the 1800’s on three historic farmsteads that are staffed by costumed reenactors.

Since only 2 fourth grade classes are going each day, we will all be able to ride the bus. We need one chaperone for each class. More chaperones are welcome but all visitors are required to pay the $2 entrance fee. Please send a total of $4 for your child, which includes the entrance fee and the bus fee. If you plan on attending, as well, please return this form with $2 included for yourself. Please note that parents must drive their own vehicle to the field trip.

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather on the day of their field trip, as they will spend most of their time outside.  Uniform dress code is still required. Closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers, are recommended.

Thank you for bringing in the field trip fees quickly. We understand that this time of year can be difficult with so many requests for fees and supplies!

Thank you,

The Fourth Grade Team

________   Enclosed is $4.00  for my child to attend.

________   I would like to chaperone. Enclosed is my additional $2.00.

October 24: Outdoor School balance due.  All paperwork due.

I am sending home the student packets, the deposit information and the medical release forms today. I am also attaching them just in case they don't make it home! Please do look through your child's binder tonight. I am also posting the T-shirt request form and the allergy/dietary request page, which you only need if there is a specific dietary need (or a need for a T-shirt).
