Our Vision

NYOS Charter School—Not Your Ordinary School—is a free, public charter school that was founded in 1998 by a group of parents who wanted more out of education for their children. It is through a commitment to our students, our staff, and our academic excellence that we have been able to grow to serve an estimated 1,800 students in PreK through 12th grade.

NYOS is a community united by a shared commitment to our core values, which align with our vision to educate the whole student for lifelong success. These values serve as the foundation for our collective goals and define the desired outcomes for our students. They establish norms and expectations that guide our interactions and support our inclusive and collaborative environment of students, families, and staff.

Our core values are reflected in the attributes, knowledge, and skills we cultivate in every NYOS graduate, ensuring they are prepared for success in an ever-changing world. These values guide our efforts to create and sustain multiple pathways for engagement and collaboration:

Our Mission

At NYOS Charter School, we educate the whole student. We foster a collegial Pre-K – 12 program that challenges each learner with rigorous academics, innovative strategies, and expectations for civic engagement.
