Welcome to Tribe Flame Arrows

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at NYOS!  We are learning a lot in 4th grade.  Visit our page regularly to stay in the know about academics, 4th grade happenings, and announcements.
About Mrs. Obenshain
I am so excited to be here at NYOS.  This is my 13th year in education and heading into my fifth year teaching 4th graders.  In 2005, I graduated from the University of San Antonio with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.  More recently, I graduated with my Masters of Educational Leadership in 2012 from UTSA.  My husband and I moved to the Austin area 5 years ago from Corpus Christi with our fur babies.  A little over a year ago, our family was blessed with our son.  I am enjoying watching him grow and learn about the world.

Dear families,
We are excited to start a poetry unit when we return from Winter Break. We are planning to use "Love that Dog" by Sharon Creech, but unfortunately we do not have the funds to purchase copies for our grade. We were planning to make copies, but we would much prefer for each child to have their own book to work from. Our students were so excited to have their own copies of "Edward Tulane", and we would love for them to have the same experience with "Love that Dog."
If you able, please purchase a copy of the book from the link below. Please consider that some families are not able to make the purchase, and we would be grateful if you could purchase one or two extra copies for other students. The 4th grade teachers will try to buy any additional copies that are needed for students.
Please feel free to make suggestions so we can have a book for each child. Buying from Half Price Books would also be helpful.
We appreciate your support and generosity!
Warm regards,
The Fourth Grade Team

4th Grade Science Donations Needed

18 paper Dixie cups for each class
Large plastic-coated paper plates-9 for each class

Extra Credit Opportunity: Native American Dwelling

Students have been researching a Texas Native American Tribe.  In class, your child has created a Google Slide presentation to show what they learned. They have the opportunity to create their tribe's dwelling (hut, wigwam, tepee, etc) for extra credit ( score point 4). Students can be creative and create a 3D representation of the dwelling.  Examples: diorama, paper mache model.

MOY Conferences will be held on Jan. 25 and Jan. 28.
