Meet Ms. Barta
I grew up in Chicago and have a large Irish/Scottish family, most of whom are still in Chicago. I have two younger brothers, three sisters, four nephews, two nieces, and a plethora of cousins. Growing up, I loved reading, writing, sports, photography, horseback riding, and camping. I spent most summers at camp or working at camp as a camp counselor.
I went to school at the University of Illinois. Initially, with the plan to be an attorney, however, my heart was not in it. After college, I taught second and third grade in Killeen. I lived in Europe for five years before returning to Texas. This will be my fourteenth year of teaching, and sixth at NYOS.
I have two daughters that also attend NYOS. When not at school (teachers really do leave at night), I love to play with my girls, read, swim, play and listen to music, play with our dogs, play games, cook, and bake. My family really enjoys reading together, especially our favorite series. Harry Potter, Narnia, Percy Jackson are a few.
