Mr. Nieto - Physics, AP Physics, and Astronomy
Hi there! Welcome to my page :)
My name is Danny Nieto (he, him, his) and I will be teaching Physics, AP Physics 1, and Astronomy. This past Spring I graduated from UT Austin with a B.S. in physics and astronomy as well as a teaching certificate in secondary physical science. This is my first year working at NYOS as well as my first year teaching. I am so excited to put to work everything I've learned in the past few years and to serve as a mentor for my students!
A bit more about me: I was born in Tampico, Mexico, and I moved to Leander, TX when I was 13 years old. I love playing musical instruments, outdoor activities (soccer, frisbee, hiking, and more!), spending time with family and friends, and constantly learning and experiencing new things.
What will my classes be like?
In all of my classes we will explore and learn about the practice of science. I will emphasize conceptual understanding and reasoning skills, I will strive to make the content relevant to students' lives and to give them agency, and I will work with each student individually (as needed) to ensure that they succeed.
As an educator I am extremely interested in cognitive science and its relevance in education. Teaching students about how our minds work, how we think, and how we learn best will be a common theme in my classes. Besides teaching students about the physical wonders of our world, it is my hope and goal to give students skills & knowledge that they will continue to use throughout their lives, as well as to motivate them to become lifelong learners.
If you wish to contact me about anything please do not hesitate to send me an email. I am always willing to set up meetings/conferences to further discuss any topics.
