NYOS Charter School—Not Your Ordinary School—is a free, public charter school that was founded in 1998 by a group of parents who wanted more out of education for their children. It is through a commitment to our students, our staff and our academic excellence that we have been able to grow to serving more than 1,000 students in PreK through 12th grade.

As a tuition-free, public charter school, NYOS receives about $700 less per student in government funding compared to traditional public schools. NYOS Charter School's academic results are substantially higher than those of surrounding schools, and as a charter school, we rely on the support of our school community to continue our commitment of academic success.

Today we did math stations about area and perimeter. Then we tweeted what we learned using post-its.

We learned that gas has mass when we mixed vinegar and baking soda creating carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is denser than air and the scale when down as they poured the gas into the brown paper bags. Learning and Science is FUN!

We really enjoyed learning about life in a mission when we visited the San Jose Mission in San Antonio.

NYOS Art Fundraiser

From the NYOS K-5 Art Studios:

It’s time for the 5^th annual NYOS Art Fundraiser through the Original Works company! Please watch for the “Look What’s Coming!“ flyer being sent home Monday. The Original Works program offers the opportunity for student projects that meet the specific criteria, to be reproduced on a variety of specific products for you to order. Your child will be bringing home their project that meets this criteria soon. Please take a look at the packet and consider supporting the NYOS Art program through the Original Works offer.

We are following Original Works’ timeline, and are on track to receive any products you order before Winter Break! The timing is great for unique holiday gifts – and coolest of all…you know the artist! J

Tonkawa Song

Today a student played a song of the Tonkawa tribe. He had researched this tribe for his Texas Native American Tribe project over fall break. Enjoy!
