Dear Students and Parents-
I wish you a belated 'WELCOME' back to school! I am excited to be a fourth grade teacher this year, having taught second and third grade at NYOS for the past four years. Parents, please subscribe to my teacher page by clicking on the 'SUBSCRIBE' tab on the right. I will be attempting to update this page at least once a month with news and links to things we're doing in class. Class Dojo is also an important communication channel, along with my NYOS email (gkolenbrander@nyos.org).
I welcome you to get to know more about me by reading my introductory letter that students received on our first day of school. That can be found here. Please let me know any time you have questions, I try to be as responsive as I can be. I sincerely look forward to teaching your children!

Animal Trading Cards

Dear Parents-
This week in science, we've been learning about animal adaptations. The kids have been super-engaged and excited. We are going to make animal adaptations trading cards using the Read Write Think website Trading Cards interactive app. Some of them expressed interest in working on these at home, so I wanted to send that link out:

Please remind them that they need to save their work. This can be done by clicking on the "Save" tab at the top of the page, then click "Send" and send their file to me at my email address: gkolenbrander@nyos.org
They do not have to do this today, but I wanted to make it available so kids could work on it over the long weekend if possible.
     Thanks! Mr. Kolenbrander

Outdoor School

Dear Parents-
I've created a page (menu on the right of this page) for Outdoor School dates, links and paperwork. Fourth and fifth graders will attend the Outdoor School in Marble Falls on November 16th and 17th (week before Thanksgiving Break). You will notice that the first student deposit and the chaperone payment are due on Monday, August 28th. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Mr. Kolenbrander

On Friday, August 25th, Mr. Kolenbrander's and Mrs. Phillips' 4th grade classes went on a field trip to the Community Impact Newspaper's Pflugerville headquarters, where we got an introduction to community journalism, talked to a real reporter, and toured the printing plant. The kids had lots of great questions and enjoyed the trip! Some kiddos even asked if we could start a 4th/5th grade newspaper...stay tuned!

Spanish tutoring available!

Mrs. Arguello, our Spanish teacher, is offering Spanish tutoring for students between 3:00 and 3:45 on Tuesday and Thursday. If you are interested, please let her (carguello@nyos.org) or I know and arrangements can be made.
     Thanks! Mr. Kolenbrander
