Kathleen Zimmermann became the Executive Director of NYOS Charter School in 2009. Before joining NYOS, Kathleen spent many years in education, operations, and financial management roles. Kathleen holds a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Assistant Director of Operations
Alyssa Moore joined NYOS in 2006 as the Site Coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Texas ACE grant program. In 2008 she moved into the Project Director position, serving 3 Austin-area charter schools. Alyssa brings 10 years of education and healthcare administration experience. She holds a Master of Science degree in Family Studies from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin.
Director of Federal Programs & Special Services
Julie Atchley joined NYOS in 2005 and served as the middle school/high school principal for seven years. She has more than 25 years of experience in education -- 19 years in administrative leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Oklahoma State University.
Director of Technology
Joey Thompson joined NYOS Charter School in 2007 as the Middle School Technology Applications teacher. Then in 2008 moved into the Director of Technology position, drawing on 10+ years of experience designing, installing, and managing networks from the ground up. Joey has held several certifications over the years, including the most recent CompTIA Network+ certification. He continues to spend time in the classroom educating students in computer maintenance and network administration.
Director of Development
Denice Brooks joined NYOS Charter School in 2016 as the Director of Development. In her 15 plus years of international and national non-profit development, she has become well versed in cultivation and strategic fundraising planning. In 1997, she had the privilege of meeting and working with President Nelson Mandela on international fundraising strategies for a music school in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Terry Berkenhoff joined the NYOS Charter School community in 2007 as the elementary principal. Throughout her professional career she has served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, assistant principal and principal. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University, Austin and a Bachelor of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University.
Curtis Wilson serves NYOS as the Middle School/ High School Principal and has been a campus leader for 11 years as a lead teacher, assistant principal and principal. He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
